Re: wireless connected but no internet access

Well, that's a good start. At least the router is issuing an IP address.

Lets try manually adding the gateway address.

Click on START ~ CONTROL PANEL ~ NETWORK CONNECTIONS

Right-Click on the wireless connection, and choose PROPERTIES

Under "This Connection uses the following items" Click on INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP/IP) and then click PROPERTIES

Click on ADVANCED at the bottom of the first page

Under Default Gateways click ADD and then enter 192.168.0.1

leave the metric option ticked, and then save and come out of network properties.

Now try and connect to the internet.

Talking Re: wireless connected but no internet access

      Bob's you're uncle, fanny's your aunt.

Thank you very much wireless connection now working.

What was that all about? While I'm in the advanced TCP/IP Settings where I have just added the above there seems to be two other entries with rectangles where numbers should be (e.g 192.168.0.1) Should these be there?

While you are on a roll.....
I now find myself having to turn the router off then on periodicaly to get back on the net sometimes? Is this something simple? I have reset the router when speaking to sky. I do remember having to set a value on a router once to stop it hibernating but not sure if it was this one or my previous one. Can't seem to find the right place in the settings if it was this one!!

Many Thanks for fixing the wireless problem. Why couldn't the sky help line suggest that in stead of blaming my laptop's wireless utility??

If you are set to 'Obtain an IP automatically' you don't need anything else. as long as it is working.

Your dropping out problem may have to do with the Power Settings of your Laptop. Have a look at the Power Options in the Control Panel, you may find that it is set to turn off to save power. Also look at the wireless adapters Properties in the Device Manager, it may also be set to turn off.

Re: wireless connected but no internet access

      Good stuff.

Keep in mind that it is a bit of a fudge as, if you use another wireless network that has a different gateway address, you'll have to remove the 192.168.0.1 address.

leave all the other boxes, they shoulod be blank.

Is the router disconnecting whilst on wireless or on both wireless and cable?

You should turn off uPnP on the router for starters, and then do a search on this forum as there is a good post or two about disconnections.

Re: wireless connected but no internet access

      Hi Isitme,

Not laptop settings as when it happens you cant get on with the the wired desktop up stairs either.

      Thanks anyway.

      Hi the_sky_goat

If I use another wireless network that has a different gateway address, do I have to remove the 192.168.0.1 address or can I just add another?

You say 'leave all the other boxes, they shoulod be blank.' Do you mean that the only thing in that box should be the 192.168.0.1 address I just added? Is so shall I delete these other two enteries that look like gobble de gook?

I'll turn off uPnP on the router and see what happens. If I still have problems I'll have a look else where. Thanks

Re: wireless connected but no internet access

      OK.

I'd like to know what that gobbledegook is - but basically - yes leave it all alone. Anything you put in there will over-ride or at least confuse your connection.

A screenshot of the gobbledegook or a copy of it on here would be very good.

You have to make it an attachment - looks like a paperclip at the top of the editor window.
