      Be a bit careful removing antenna with power on -- the wireless section expects a particular load and conceivably could be damaged. Equally using a non standard antenna may have the same effect.

      Some people claim good results from changing the antenna -- other say makes no difference. Personally I would first try raising the router above furniture level and using the antenna at a 45 degree angle pointed at the target computer. Try moving the computer or its adapter antenna (or add extension cable if using USB wireless).
