Broadband connection loss when uploading files

I have been experiencing a problem with my Sky broadband connection since day one (Sky Connect) but only when I upload either a large file or a large number of smaller files. As I have to modify and set up quite a few websites, this is a bit of a pain when I come to upload them.

      Symptoms:

I'll be in either an FTP application uploading files or be on a webpage with a 'Click Here To Upload' button and all will be fine for a few seconds and then... All internet connections drop / timeout. Any FTP application will timeout. No web pages are accessible - except Sky's homepage!

The router is working fine during this stage and the problem is not cured by a route reboot.

All I can do is wait for a couple of minutes for something, somewhere, to reset.

Does anyone know what this is all about - as Sky / EasyNet technical support just ask me to reboot my router

Or, has anyone experienced this and has a cure?

Is it some sort of 'feature' to protect sky / whoever against perhaps DOS attacks?

      -Axelson...

Re: Broadband connection loss when uploading files

I can't help with a solution, but I upload loads of big files using FTP and never have a problem, either with active or passive modes, so I don't think there's any mechanism put in place by Sky/Easynet that stops this working.

To be honest, I can't think of anything that could cause the syptoms you describe.

Thanks for your reply but I see your on MAX so you have bypassed all the BT 'stuff' that I unfortunately still have to endure until my exchange is modified.

I would still like to hear if anyone else has experienced this. I did not have this problem with my previous two broadband providers.

Does this happen all the time or is it just at peak times? I am fairly sure BT did operate a throttling policy on P2P down/uploading, but I don't know if it would apply to what you are uploading. This has nothing to do with Sky, it is/was down to BT. This is one problem I have not seen reported before on the forum.
