      Another... Sky Router Disconnection Thread

      Hi,

My sky router keeps disconnecting me from my network. I'm just down a short hall but it keeps causing problems.

Here are the stats you might want to know (they make no sense to me):

Also if the phone rings the router disconnects all the time, any idea how to resolves these problems?

Re: Another... Sky Router Disconnection Thread

The stats look healthy although they only cover just over 10 minutes connection. I would think that the telephone ringing problem is caused by either a faulty ADSL filter somewhere - and there should be one in EVERY extension on the line - or possibly a ring wire needs disconnecting at the master socket. Look for an orange and white wire connected to terminal 3 on the master socket and disconnect it.

Yes I am wireless? Is that the cause of the constant disconnection?

Here ae more up to date over a longer period stats if required.

Re: Another... Sky Router Disconnection Thread

^^^ You need to establish whether the problem is wireless between your PC and router, or the router to the exchange. Your stats show quite a lot of errors and the SNR is rather low so it could be the router disconnecting. Have a look in the router log for clues here.

I would first try using Mognuts to increase the SNR to 8 or 9 which will slow down your speed slightly but may stabilise the connection. Also check whether there are any telephone extension sockets wired to the master and if the orange & white ring wire is connected to terminal 3 then remove it.

If neither of these resolve the problem, then start looking to the wireless connection and drivers etc. HTH - Ian

looks like a bit of both, first port of call, can you access your master socket and try comparison from the test socket behind the face plate (see cabling and face plate forum)

Re: Another... Sky Router Disconnection Thread

When the 'disconnection' occurs see if you can still access the router.
If you can't then it is the wirless link dropping out.
If you can then it is likely you have some interference on your line causing the router to drop the connection with the exchange.
Follow the advice already given re: the ring wire and filters.
Also of note is that you are on the base package which means that you will be throttled at 2M yet your line is capable of far more 12M or so.
Have you thought about upgrading to the Mid package at all?
      Mac.

Can't be on base syncing on ADSL2+ at 12+Meg down and 768 up? This is a MAX profile.
