Another - 'Keep loosing connection' thread

Like so many others I am suffering from regular loss of connections etc..

I am on Max and it works fine when it works, however at regular times - I am yet to see if there is any specific pattern - I will loose connection (Pages fail to display). Router lights are as normal, only fix is to reboot router or power it off/on. Then I am back and running again.

      Here is my stats -

I am plugged directly into the master socket (Using a short wire), without the need for filters - as BT installed one of those 'sockets' that has both phone/lan connections a few years back.

Recently migrated from Pipex where my 2Wire router kept a faultless connection.

Any specific advice for me to try?

      TIA.

Re: Another - 'Keep loosing connection' thread

Same here, ive posted before with my stats was told it was my extension cable which i replced with ethernet cable. Still drops out at regular times of day and night. Never had any issues with previous ISPs. This cannot be a coincidence that so many members are posting on here with the same problem. If im honest I cant wait for the 12 moths to end so i can move on.

Sorry this dosent help your problem hope you can get it sorted

Re: Another - 'Keep loosing connection' thread

The SNR (noise margin) is very low indicating a possible noisy line, and you are consequently getting masses of errors. 900 ES (errored seconds) in 15 minutes is 100% exactly!

I would use the Mognuts utility here:

Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4

to increase the target noise margin to around 10db. This will slow down your connection but should also stablilise it so you can repost stats for any further advice.

this forum will by default have lots of people with prolems (if someting is running great would you look for a forum to post !)
and there are also alot of people who have improved there connection (with infomation from other users), when you changed your extension to a ethernet cable did you check the test socket ?

as to original OP, i think some one else has suggested checking your router connection (if using an extention) , you could do a comparison from your test socket (if you have one) and re-post

You have a massive amount of line errors, it would be worth removing the master socket face plate and plug into the test socket behind there just to make sure it isn't anything internal causing the problem.

Yes i did join this forum when i originally had problems but still come back reguarly. I agree that it and its members are very helpfull and yes my router is connected to the main bt socket. I am not the only one that i know of with this issue as two others who I reccomended Sky too have the same issue. Apart from the constant annoying disconnections SKY BB is very good but as i said roll on 9 months time and sorry too eyemdee for crashing his post i will shut up now

Re: Another - 'Keep loosing connection' thread

Will remove the plate and use the test socket tomorrow - Didnt realise that was on these 'new' sockets too.

Will also try increasing the Line noise margin.

      Thanks, I will report back.

Re: Another - 'Keep loosing connection' thread

The massive amount of errors is definitely your problem. You are on ADSL2+ which with the Sky router does not seem to handle noisy lines very well. One word of caution, don't phone Sky yet. The first thing they will do is cap your connection by putting you on G.DMT, once on that it will take some time to get back on to a full speed line. While you are in the socket box, disconnect the wires from terminal 3. This is the ring wire which is not required with newer phones or even with old ones connected through a filter.

I would not advise using Mognuts just yet, try to improve your wiring first, then you can tweak the SNR if you need to. Improving the wiring will raise your SNR without using artificial fixes.

There is masses of information on improving your wiring in the Cabling and faceplate help - Sky User - The unofficial support forum for everything Sky! and in the Speed tests and how to get better results - Sky User - The unofficial support forum for everything Sky!

Re: Another - 'Keep loosing connection' thread

      Thanks for the further help.

I haven't had a chance yet to check the wires etc...

However, the lose of connections are now approximately daily. When I check the Noise is between 4 and 5.

I will see if I can check the socket before making any adjustments.
