      Windows firewall will never block your access to the router. Make sure that Internet Connection Sharing is not switched on, because that would certainly stop you connecting to the router.

      Can we take it that changing the channel has solved the connection problem and you only problem now is the Windows Firewall? If this is the case, try running the System File Checker, you may have a missing or corrupt file. To do this open the Run box and type sfc /scannow note there is a space between the c and the /.

      I would strongly recommend that you install a 3rd party firewall. The XP one is about as much use as a chocolate poker. The Comodo firewall comes highly commended and although it is a bit of a hassle to set up and get running, you will not get much better. If you do this turn off the Windows one, as it can cause problems if you run two software firewalls.
