      Sky's new router?

      Hi,

Just got my router today.....I was expected the DG834 like others with Sky broadband. Instead, i appear to have recieved a different router....Sky's own rebranded netgear one. I think its a DG934G1, which looks in a way like a mini HD box. I can't seem to find any details of this on netgear?

Anyone using this? and know anything about it?

Anyone know if this is a better stable router? Plus, anyone know if i can still use this to extract the username/password details if i chose to use another router?
I can't confirm this coz i'm not switched on yet....something next week....
Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4

      Many thanks,
      Hung

      Re: Sky's new router?

Well, the original Sky router is a rebranded version of the DG834GT. It actually does have Sky written on the box where it would normally say Netgear. But it sounds like you've got one of the new routers. These are reputed to be much, much better than the original Sky routers.

They haven't been hacked yet, so as yet, no-one knows how to extract the connection username and password from them, or even if it actually is possible to do it. But hopefully, you won't need to do it anyway.

So… wanna swap routers with me?

Some piccies via the camera phone....not the best, but atleast you know what it looks like...

      F2S Virtual Vault - DSC00192

      F2S Virtual Vault - DSC00190

      F2S Virtual Vault - DSC00191

Didnt realize it was that new....hopefully a hack is available, for that additional flexiability. When i connected it i noticed that the noise margin was about 1-2db worse off down to 6....compared to 8 on my current netgear router. And the line atten of 30 compared to 31 on the netgear. Don't know how reliable this is seeing i'm still connected Virgin broadband as the line does not appear to be active yet. However i'm able to connect to the router and check out the admin pages...

For you info this is the version:

      Router Status
      Firmware Version V2.02.34
      Modem
      ADSL Firmware Version 6.02.01.00

      Re: Sky's new router?

They don't handle interference on the phone line as well as an ADSL router should. Basically everyone's phone line will have some interference or noise on it, and ADSL routers are supposed to cope with it, but Sky's original router… erm… well… doesn't.

Now I'm just going to put that glass of water down right next to the router. I do hope the cat doesn't jump up on the table and accidentally knock it over, because it'll spill right onto the router. And we can't have that, can we…

Not in much detail no...I'll get reading

Well i'm sure if your existing router was to suddenly fail ....they would replace it with ones of these pups.
However, over the next few weeks we'll know if these are the default routers.

Will keep u posted on, as i won't be connected till wednesday?
Btw, it is worth installing the software on the cd just now?
