      Flashing Lights

My router keeps on flashing the orange and green light (Power and Tick lights)

i cannot access the Internet at all. It Doesn't connect with my PC.

I have been told that it is a Firmware failure/corruption. What I dont understand is that how can it be a firmware failure when I havn't upgraded/updated the firmware.

      Re: Flashing Lights

I would have suggested trying out the router recovery utility that's included on the Sky CD in the Utilities folder. But it might be better to phone up Sky customer service. They might send you one of the new style routers.

This router is a replacement they gave, and I did call them up, but they tell me I can connect to the Internet apparently

BTW I did use the upgrade wizard on the CD, everything goes well, but it cannot find the router, and because of this I cannot upgrade

      Re: Flashing Lights

Ah well, if you can't recover the router, then you'll need to get another new router. The router will not work if it's showing alternating flashing lights. Sky were wrong to tell you that it should work, because it definitely will not.

      Re: Flashing Lights

You'll have to phone Sky technical support again and explain that the replacement router they sent doesn't work. If they've sent you two faulty routers, they can't exactly just say "tough luck".

Incidentally, what was wrong with the first router, the one that this router replaced?

      Re: Flashing Lights

They only sent me 1 faulty router which is the one I am talking about. The other one died 3 weeks ago

      Re: Flashing Lights

OK you could try doing this, although I don't think it's likely to work, to be honest. Remove the power connector from the router (and I'm talking about the one with the alternating lights). Get something like a paper clip to push in the recessed reset button on the back of the router, and with the button still pressed in, reconnect the power to the router. Keep the reset button pressed in for about 10 seconds, then release it. I know it's a fiddly thing to have to do, but I suppose it's worth a try.

If that procedure doesn't work then you'll have to phone Sky up again and tell them that the replacement router they sent doesn't work. And they'll have to send you yet another router. There is no other solution to the problem, simple as that. If the router shows alternately flashing lights when you power it up, then it's faulty. No if's, no but's, it just shouldn't do that if it's working OK.

      Re: Flashing Lights

Ok I've filled in the online technical form. They should be calling me by tomorrow, Im not bothered to call them and waste my time waiting for somebody.

Good thing with the online form is that Tier 3 contacts you.

It worked last time, when I needed another router which I just found out to be annoyingly faulty.

So I guess I have to stick to using my non-Sky Router (Good ol'speedtouch 585)
