      On the precipice of insanity......

      As first posts go, this could just about be the stupidest one you'll ever have the misfortune to read.

      But.....I'm at my wits end here. I never claimed to be Bill Gates but I would have thought I could have worked this one out by now.

      Here's the story;

      Got Sky Broadband set up a couple of weeks ago and I've installed the software etc on to my PC. However, the missus has a laptop next door which I hoped to set up so she could use the internet from my router.

      Alas, I have absolutely no idea how to do this. Previously when with Telewest Broadband, we had the modem plus a Belkin Router which we used and she connected to the internet through a Belkin network stick.

      However, I am either being put on hold, hung up on, or getting no sense from anyone at Sky.

      Could someone, please, please, please tell me what I need to do to set up the laptop so it can access the internet. In layman's terms preferably

      Many thanks in exasperated anticipation!

      Presumably you want to connect the laptop wirelessly?

      First question is whether your laptop is wireless ready (most have it built in). If so then run the wireless network setup wizard (found in Control Panel). The security settings you'll need are printed on the bottom of the Sky router.

      If the laptop isn't wireless enabled then you'll need to either get a plug in wireless card or a USB wireless dongle (Sky will sell you one - or any PC shop). Or you could probably use the Belkin stick you already have. With the card/dongle/stick will be a wireless networking utility. Run this to install it and follow the instruction. Again, the security settings you need are on the router.
