Router causing line noise & disconnecting.

OK been on Max for 5 months - one problem just after installation sorted by capping but now I have a new one. Over the last 2 or 3 nights we have noticed a lot of line crackling when making a phone call. Also internet connection now disconnecting frequently when not in use, and occasionally when in use.

Having unplugged everything from all sockets, tried a standard wired phone direct into all extensions and the line is absolutely silent. (17070 quiet line test). That ruled out blaming BT!

Trying telephone and answering machine devices one by one using every permutation of socket and filter I discover that the line noise is only present when the Sky router is connected to the line! It appears that the router is generating its own interference.

Anyone else had this. Called Sky tonight and got the usual T1 questions like "have you tried plugging the router into the line without a filter?"

Now waiting for a call back from T3 but my money is on a failing router unless anyone can suggest anything else.

Yes, three different ones. Also tried the router into filter into master socket with everything else disconnected this morning and it still disconnected after a few minutes. 2 phone calls to T1 so far and an email but still no response from anyone who knows anything. I am getting very disillusioned now as I imagine it will take ages for them to replace the router if that is faulty.

it would be worth giving sky a ring again later tonight (after 11sh), did you get a ticket number when you spoke to them earlier ? if you did when you phone up later explain to teir1 that you have a ticket number and would like to speak to teir 3 (otherwise you may have to go though all the checks teir 1 do first)
hopefully teir 3 will be able to help

(Note: may be worth having your router in the test socket when you ring)

UPDATE: Everything now working perfectly and line interference has all but disappeared! I discovered elsewhere in this excellent forum (Mid morning dropouts thread) that EasyNet have been carrying out major network upgrades all over the place. Although my exchange is not mentioned on their site, I can only think that this work has been contributing to or causing my problems!

Why oh why cannot Sky save everyone thousands of unnecessary phone calls by giving this elementary information to their Tier 1 operators??!!

      whoops !

well spotted, i did not even think about that

P.S keep an eye on your router stats, because you have logged a call with T3, they may have a look at your line and if they see errors may cap you !

Re: Router causing line noise & disconnecting.

By the time I answered this I got cut off again - then got reconnected with an IP address in Basingstoke - 250 miles away. No wonder the line crackles. Now I have been ported back again after yet another disconnection.
