      Wireless connection deteriorates until useless

      Hi,

My wireless connection to the router lasts several minutes whilst it deteriorates in stages from 54 Mbps down to 1.0 Mbps, upon which it becomes unusable until I "repair" the connection. Any idea why it's doing this? The actual ADSL connection remains up because a hard-wired connection keeps transferring data, but not the wireless. I am in the same room as the router, barely 9 feet away from it. The wireless adapter is in my Fujitsu Siemens laptop and I've had no other problems with the numerous other wireless access points I have used it with.

I've had this problem before but by using Network Stumbler I discovered that I was occupying channels with other routers in and around my building and changing to an unoccupied one cured it for a while, but now the problem has resurfaced. Checking Network Stumbler and I see no overlaps with other channels. I've tried switching between b,g, b&g and auto but to no avail.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

      Thanks in advance,

      Craig

      Try this:

Obviously also look at range and interference issues. Testing
with router in the same room as computer. Use wireless adapter utility to detect neighbouring wifi and move to channel (ideally) 6 stops from strongest.

Dect phones can cause problems, even if they are not in the same room. Wireless is never really dependable and the Netgear with Sky firmware is not very good. Hopefully the new firmware, when it arrives, will improve the situation.

easiest solution - throw your wireless adapter in the bin and go wired....

      job done!
