It wasn't one of the standard support guys but someone who was asked to ring me after I emailed James Murdoch. He really had no way of denying it though as I had already flashed the Netgear firmware and confirmed the fix in the few days since emailing James and getting the call. I went from 20+ disconnections a night to none over 3 days. It was quite clear the firmware was the cause of the problem.
It might also of helped that I could explain what happened regarding errors on the line suddenly increasing to approx 200 in a couple of seconds before the disconnections - something I found my old BT Voyager router also did (both routers use a Broadcom chipset). He also advised the new firmware would be arriving soon - this was nearly 4 months ago.

Frankly, it's been so long now that I wouldn't be terribly surprised if we never see a firmware update for the original router.

tbh, doesnt matter if it came from James Murdoch himself - they've still broken company policy saying what they have and should not be working for Sky - we'd be out on our arses if we got caught so i don't see why he should be any different
