Thanks for the extra info everyone. What exactly was/is the MSN problem mentioned? Periodically I have outlook flashing umpteen messages to enter passwords (like outlook can't connect to the msn server to download messages/headers) on our 3 hotmail accounts. It goes away by next day (usually) but is annoying and i have to exit outlook and it therefore makes outlook pretty unusable that day.
P.S When this happens I have good connection snr is over 7 so its not a line connection problem.

On some connections, MSN gets disconnected and logs back in at 12am or 1am in BST. Not a huge problem, but if you have headphones on, it can make you jumped, when it flashes up how many emails you have as it logs back on.

      Re: Sky Router Firmware Upgrade

      Hi

I currently have firmware version 1.02.28. what is supposed to be the most up to date one? and i have been to the netgear website to try and update mine because i keep getting drops in my connection but when i try to go through the upgrade it comes back:

"Upgrade file is not the correct type or version for this device.
      Upgrade failed.

Please obtain the correct file and try again. "

      any ideas anyone?

      many thanks!

      Re: Sky Router Firmware Upgrade

and if the version i have is the most up to date, why does the netgear site have a newer version (or am i reading the numbers wrong).

i seems a little strange to dish out updates on their website and them to not work.

also i am running vista, i tried to down load the vista update for the router (also on the netgear website, about 30mb) but it just a lot of documentation, not a program to update anything.

      again any ideas?

      many thanks!

      Re: Sky Router Firmware Upgrade

The Sky router firmware was written especially for Sky by Netgear, the firmware will not update from the Netgear website. There is only one Sky version available which is the one you have, Sky are currently testing a new version which may be released in the next few months and if so it will be an automatic update.
If you hunt around this forum there is a proceedure to restore to Netgear firmware but this is against Skys terms and conditions, would be at your own risk and Sky are likely to refuse support if you have any problems.

BTW I had similar disconnection problems and reverting to Netgear firmware didn't help, it turned out to be poor telephone wiring causing noise on the line. Your best bet would be to extract your detailed stats and post them here to see if we can spot any problems.

Go to the utility web site: Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4
Click the “Get” detailed modem stats button and click “OK”.
Enter the router login user name and password.
At the next screen, click the back button on your browser.
      Click the “Download” netgear.cfg button.
What you do next depends on your operating system. On Windows XP, click the “Save” button to save the file to your hard disk. (If you click “Open”, you may find that the file association is one that doesn’t handle carriage returns the same way as the router, hence the reason for saying “Save”.)
Open the file in WordPad (not notepad).

      Hope this helps.

      Re: Sky Router Firmware Upgrade

The Sky router uses a modified version of the 1.02.28 Firmware which was used on the normal box. Netgear have released upgrades for the non-Sky boxes, but it is down to Sky to release new firmware for their boxes.

The netgear upgrades do not work on the Sky box, as the Sky router is locked down for use with Sky only.

Also, it does not matter what operating system you use with the Sky router. As the router is effectively a self contained system, it doesnt require any special programs running on your computer to allow you to connect to it. Just hook up a cable, or enter the wireless settings, and you should be good to go.

EDIT: Dont you just hate it when your writing a response, and someone writes the exact same thing as you, just a few seconds before you finish lol

      Re: Sky Router Firmware Upgrade

its seems updating the firmware on the router is against Sky's T&C's

But the only think you see about the router that is branded is the Sky logo on the front of the router.

Inside the router settings - its all netgear branding/logos with a 'Router Upgrade"' link

Click that and it takes you to the upgrade page.

Notice on the help section - it says

Go to NETGEAR - Wireless routers, adapters, and other networking solutions for the home, smb, and broadservice Providers and download the updated software.

Which is what people will/could do.

Notice that via the settings it is listed as a NetGear DG834GT.

Whats to stop people upgrading it.

      Sky's T&C wont cover that.

(I havent upgraded my router - but i do know NetGear release updates for their routers etc ever so often).

(Some of the updates would proberly fix loads of the probs some people have).
