      Wireless connection & firmware version

      Hi,

My wireless connection to the router has gone done to 1mbps in recent days for some reason. I was wondering if it's worth upgrading the firmware because I can see the Netgear one has this:
      # Updated the wireless driver to improve performance.

How can I tell what version the Sky firmware maps back to? I don't want to risk it if the firmware doesn't offer any stated improvements.

The router says I have Firmware Version V1.02.28, which doesn't seem to exist on the Netgear site?

      Thanks.
      endo

Update to NETGEAR firmware at your own peril, just don't expect Sky to 'entertain' any problems you then have. The Sky router has SKY'S own firmware version, hence it's not on Netgears site as nothing to do with netgear at all !

Re: Wireless connection & firmware version

As far as I know, the firmware on the router is actually a modified version of the standard V1.02.04 firmware. The current (standard release) V1.02.09 firmware seems much more advanced.

I can't say whether the latest firmware offers a better wireless experience though, because I don't use wireless networking. It may well do. It certainly drives the phone line a hell of a lot better.

Not that I'm encouraging you to update your firmware or anything. Just saying, is all.

      Thanks for your comments.

Ok, it's probably my wireless card anyway, I was being lazy about ordering a card and installing it. Since my phone can find more wireless networks than my PC, I just bought a netgear 311 shiznit so hopefully that'll work better and I'll get 108mbps.
