Hmm, OK. All a bit strange though - I've only had one disconnect since I plugged into the test socket. Could all be a coincidence I suppose.

Do you think I should be asking Sky to uncap my line?

If you do have extensions connected to the faceplate, then an ADSL Faceplate would be your best solution

You could ask them to lift the cap, but you may get nowhere. It will depend how lucky you are with the tech you get whether they will even try.

No extensions, just the wire to the router and another to the phone.

I take you don't have your Sky box plugged in then

An ADSL faceplate does give you the opportunity to plug in extensions if you need them, without effecting your broadband.

Hmm... OK, now you mention it, there must be some extensions, because I have other phone sockets. The only thing that was plugged in however was... the Sky box! And without a microfilter.

I unplugged it the other day, around the time I switched to the master socket and the connection stopped dropping. So it looks like that must have been the culprit.

The Sky box is something many forget when putting in filters and it can be worse than a phone for causing problems. If the extension to this is not connected to the face plate then it must be connected (illegally) behind the Master box. Apart from being illegal, it will also have an effect on your phone line. Even if you are plugged into the Test socket, this extension will not be isolated. If this is the case, you should get it fixed and your connection will improve further.

I'll need to have a close look at it to see what the set up is. There are four phone sockets throughout the house, but no extension type leads (ie the type you would buy of B&Q or Argos or something) coming out of the socket itself. It was all like that when I moved in.

Are you sure you are plugged into the test socket? You did remove the front plate from the Master socket(2 screws) and use the socket behind it. If you did you should have seen wires attached to the front plate. If there are no wires there, then you have an illegal installation. Which could explain your problem.

Yes, I'm in the test socket, but to be honest I can't remember if there were wires attached to the fron t plate or not. I think perhaps there were, as it didn't fall of totally, but I'm not certain. I'm away from home with work at the moment, but I'll check when I get home.
