Re: Connection Dropping Every Few Minutes

Your errors have dropped below .001% so you should be OK to ask for the cap to be removed. Saturday will maybe confirm that if you do show too many errors after being uncapped, these could be controlled by yourself tweaking the SNR. Wait for Sat' to confirm before you do anything.

Re: Connection Dropping Every Few Minutes

To be honest those stats don't look too promising to me: errors are zero in the previous hour but quite high in the previous 1 day - I wonder what's causing that? Of more note is that the capping is very light. The router is only showing a max rate of 6400kbps and that's really poor for a 29db attenuation connection.

Is that latest set of stats from your test socket (the one hidden inside your master if you have an NTE5) and if so is that with only the router/microfilter connected, using the supplied router cable only?

If so then it looks like you have a BT line problem. With this unresolved your line is not going to improve much uncapped. However, if you get it resolved then you can expect to sync at the maximum for a Mid connection of 8096kbps with a healthy noise margin of 12db+.

If they're not test socket stats then please reboot your router then plug into the test socket (with only the router/microfilter connected using the supplied router cable) and run for at least 12 preferably 24 hours, downloading a good amount, before taking the new stats.

My advice would be that you need to do a bit of work to resolve your line problem before contacting Sky.

Yes, still plugged into the test socket.

And I just had my first disconnect since I plugged into the test socket yesterday.

I'll download plenty over the next 24 hrs then post the detailed stats again.

      Thanks for your help.

Would it be worth running James' Error Monitor to isolate the error period?

Re: Connection Dropping Every Few Minutes

Well that looks perfect. A full day without any CRC errors (and only 479 RS words needed correction - a very low number). If that's the kind of stats you get when you use the test socket, then I suggest that the problems you were primarily cause by your internal phone wiring.

You'll find plenty of advice about how to improve internal phone wiring around the forum. A filtered faceplate and placing the router right by the master socket will probably give you results close to what you're seeing in you last set of detailed stats.

If after that, your disconnections are still occurring, then I reckon it's likely to be a slightly flaky router. With UPnP disabled and good stats like yours, the router really shouldn't be disconnecting on any regular basis.

Can't I just stay connected to the test socket?

Re: Connection Dropping Every Few Minutes

Well, if you don't have any extensions wired in to inside of the faceplate, you may as well just put the faceplate back on - it's just a straight through connection from the front of a standard faceplate to the test socket.

If you do have extensions wired in to the faceplate, then obviously those extensions won't be working while you have the faceplate off.
