      P2P drops connections

      Hi,

I've recently being having drop put problems when using peer-to-peer. For the last few weeks everything has been fine and I've been able to download gigs of data. Since last weekend (Sat/Sun 15/16) I started experiencing dropped connections. The Router would show in "Connection Status" that it was connected. The Noise Margin in "Show Statistics" would show above 7.

The drop out happens when I run BitTorrent or DirectConnect. It does not seem to happen when I am surfing. When I start any p2p software, it drops the connection after a few mins. When I connect to the router, I then have to soft-reboot and and do a "Sky Test" to get the connection back. Surfing is then fine but p2p will keep dropping it.

I have router in master socket and use wireless on PC. The wireless on the PC never drops out as that is how I connect to the router to reset it or check status.

I have the MODE on Auto and tried switchin off uPNP and using bittorrent still drops it out.

      Any advice please?

Right now, at time of posting 3pm, show stats is:

You really need to post the full detailed stats, to get a meaningful reply. Looking at what you have posted, your connection speed is low for you attenuation, which suggests a line problem.

      Re: P2P drops connections

You really need to run a bit longer, this only confirms that you should be syncing at twice the speed you are. Run for as long as you dare, 24 hrs is best, then post again. You have not been capped or you would not have been left on ADSL2+.

      Re: P2P drops connections

Thanks. What do you mean by run as long as I can? Does that mean WITHOUT rebooting or resetting? But what if my connection gets dropped and it does not come back up automatically? Do I just leave it and then get the stats tomorrow afternoon?

      Thanks for helping.

      Re: P2P drops connections

Mine's been doing the same and this happened around the same time too. Tier 3 ruled out any errors and my connection from the exchange is fine but because my IP was dropping out, they thought it might be a router problem and have dispatched a new one (that was over a week ago and it still hasn't arrived!!)
However, I borrowed my son's today (he's on Sky BB too) and it happened with his. I get anything from between a couple of minutes to about half an hour of connection.
The other thing I have noticed is that when using BitTorrent, it shows an orange triangle at the bottom suggesting no port has been forwarded and testing it confirms the ports not open but checking the settings for the router says it IS!! Even changing the port number and setting it all up again makes no difference??

      Re: P2P drops connections

After some phone calls with Sky Tier3 (the other tiers a bit useless but you have to go through them first), they and I made some changes and it seems stable now. So here is what I had and here is what I now have:

      BEFORE
      Router connected to master socket
Phone on the master socket (through the micro filter)
      PC wireless to router
Helios media server wireless to PC, via router

      AFTER
Sky Tier3 reduced line speed to around 14.5MB (too many errors apparently)
Router was connected to test socket (for Sky T3 tests) behind master, now connected back to master as per normal.
      Phone moved to extension.
-- Still had drop outs so : --
PC is now wired to Router
Helios is now wired to Router.

RESET router to Factory Default (as recommended by Sky). uPNP is ON.

      Restarted everything in order.

So the major changes were the hard wiring through LAN instead of wireless; reduction in line speed by Sky and moving the phone to an extension.

Sky did suggest I change my microfilter to another new one, which I did so not sure if this mattered.

I'm now downloading through p2p and surfing fine, so far.
