      Hard Reboot of router

      Hi all.

      Have any of you (un)lucky people had a router lock up, and the only solution is a hard reboot (ie kill the power)? This happens to me a lot. The router status lights report that all is well, but trying to connect to the outside world is impossible.....and so is connecting to the router itself - When the router locks, I can't even get as far as username/password popup - that's how bad it is. Usually if the PC or PS3 hasn't been in use (for over a day) I find no connection, and there have been times when I've been online, and the router has suddenly lost it's connection.

      Before I post my stats, just wondered if this sounds like a hardware or quality of line issue. I am using ethernet connection (both PC and PS3), and have uPNP switched off.

      Cheers

      It does sound like a router hardware problem really. I've read elsewhere that snapping on those little plastic support legs you get with the router and having it stand in a vertical position improves cooling. It reckon it would be worth a try.

      Thanks for the tip, but my router is already resting on the legs, and has good airflow all around. Looks like I'll have to phone support.....which is another trial in itself...

      If you are using wireless then it would be worth connecting via ethernet just to narrow things down a bit. It would be handy to know if it is a wireless problem or something else. If problems continue on ethernet then post your detailed stats.

      @tapir

      Check your power management settings. From your description I wonder if your PC is powering off your ethernet card when it has been idle for a while. If this happens, when it wakes it can't re-establish a connection to the router.
