      Reset Router to "Sky Settings"

OK so let me recap on my story so far:

I was connected and had 3 days of super fast (14mbish) connection with no disconnects. Then one afternoon i start getting lots of disconnects and can only reconnect at around 3mbish.

I log a call - it goes to tier 3 and since then I have been getting no disconnects but can only connect at 2mbish still.

After this was done - i had a scout around the forum to see what i could try myself. I have patched the router up to the latest version, to see if that helps, but to no avail (i had previously acquired my skydsl login / pass)

Since then i have also reverted back to the original firmware.

Logged and spoke to tier 3 last night regarding the slow connection, and they tried a fe things - rese tthe line a couple of times to see if speed increased, but no matter what he set the line to (2mb fmb then 10mb) it always connects at 2mb - which as you know, is therefor ethe fastest i will be able to download at.

it is currently sat at 10mb.

What I'm wandering is - where do i go next - what can i try. I had blistering performance for a few days now its down to 2mb - so i know the line is capable and i know its set at 10mb - so what can i do to help.

Also, now that i have rejigged firmware etc I am not on "skys" version of the firmware but am on the router dfault, so i see differnet things - such as adsl username and pass, and multiplex method etc. Is there a way to get it back to "skys setting"?

Could my router be a bit screwy? It is running very hot. Is there an easy way to get sky to replace it?

All comments and help welcome - but please be aware I had lightening fast speed for a few days so i know the line is capable - and nothing changed in the interim. I am also aware that "many other factors" can affect the speed, but surely with those factors changing i should be able to connect faster than 2mb at some point.

:Edit - Very tempted to go out and buy an ADSL+2 Router of a different make and try that tonight - as i have the username and password anyways it cant hurt -

Heat issue seems to be solved by using the silly feet that came in the box so that vents are uppermost.

You should find the original firmware on the Sky CD -- whether you have to do the whole Netgear Recovery routine again I don't know.

Some people report better results (particularly wireless) with other brands -- Linksys seem well regarded.

You could post your detailed router stats, and we will have a look and see if we can see any problems. If you click on my username and search on posts by me there are plenty explaining how to extract the stats.

Re: Reset Router to "Sky Settings"

Your line doesn't appear to be capped by Sky.

On an uncapped line there are two main things which affect sync speed: attenuation and line quality. Your sync speed is far too low for your attenuation so it looks like a line quality issue. A router fault is possible though, but unlikely.

What results do you get using your test socket (hidden inside your master socket - assuming you have an NTE5), connecting just the router and a microfilter using the supplied router cable?
