      Disconnects and Slow speeds

Hi, first post here. I've been on the Sky Max package for about 3 weeks and all I've experienced is disconnects and slow speeds of 1-3mb (I was told my line is capable of up to 8mb). I've tried the 'lock' noise margin trick, but it seems that hasn't helped. Also had a new master socket fitted by BT yesterday, into which the micro filter is connected so I'm guessing that isn't the problem.

(Just had a disconnect while posting)

Here are my stats, help would be much appreciated.

      Re: Disconnects and Slow speeds

Your attenuation should support a much better speed, but you have a massive error count for such a short period. When you say you had a new Master socket fitted, is it a standard BT one with only a phone outlet? If it is remove the face plate and plug into the Test socket behind it. This will eliminate any internal errors. Even if it is a filtered face plate try the same, just in case it is wired incorrectly.

Try this run it for 24 hours and post back the results.

Thanks for the reply. I tried plugging into the test socket as suggested, but the problem still persists. And yes I have a standard BT master socket.

      Re: Disconnects and Slow speeds

There was a difference in that your sync speed nearly doubled but presumably you're still getting disconnects and low throughput?

Looking at your stats there's clearly a line problem. Your attenuation would normally be good for ADSL2+, which is what you're on, but your sync speed is very poor. You're getting 3.5 meg and you should be getting more like 13.5 meg. If that latest set was in your test socket, not via a plug in extension and nothing else plugged in, then your BT line has a problem. If you've just connected to the test socket with an extension and/or a splitter then don't.

At the moment, until you can get your line sorted you'd be better off on G.DMT which you can set yourself using Mognuts.

It may be your line problems causing the disconnections and low throughput but I'm just wondering, are you wireless?

      Re: Disconnects and Slow speeds

It may be worth phoning BT and asking them to test your line as you are hearing noises, the problem as Saturday says is mainly with your line. Do not mention Sky Broadband or you will get nowhere.

      Re: Disconnects and Slow speeds

Thanks for the help guys, well it looks like I best be on to BT about this one then. And Saturday, I have two PCs connected to the router, one wireless and one wired, but the problem is the same on both.

      Re: Disconnects and Slow speeds

Well if that last set was with the router directly connected to the test socket with only a microfilter and the supplied router cable then the problem certainly lies with the BT line - or at least the line errors do.

Sometimes there are more than one thing going on though. Have you turned UPnP off just in case?

      Re: Disconnects and Slow speeds

Hi guys, just looked at the stats and there is a major problem with the downstream power levels !!!
      Test 1 @ 1.3 (very low)
Test 2 @ 921.6 surely this cannot be correct ????

      Re: Disconnects and Slow speeds

Power levels are pretty meaningless - just a snapshot at the time the stats were taken. Actually, more than meaningless. Often they are completely spurious.
