      Ditch your sky router today !!!

      Hi, ive been with sky for 2 weeks now, and after 10 days my dl speeds dropped from 500kbs to 45kbs. I've spent the last few days trying everything i can to resolve the problem, but to no avail.
      I phoned sky a few times, but they now say the problem is with my router (I was thinking, yeah sure !!), so today i switched back to my DG834G v3 which was supplied by AOL, my previous isp.
      My speeds have gone back to normal (5meg which is what they were for the last 2 years on AOL) and the ping time is down to 60ms. No more waiting for pages and the whole internet seems smooth and fast again.

      I'll post again in a week or two, to let everyone know if all is still well, but it may be worth your while going on ebay and looking for second hand netgear routers.

      Hope this gives hope to a few...Jim

      God i hope this is right. Looks like my BB is now active but the delay with routers looks as though it will take another 7 days to get to me... If I could use my own netgear router that would be fab.

      I will test tonight when I get home.

      DM you need to get your username & P/W off of your sky router before you can use another one, so am afraid i think you are out of luck until your sky one arrives

      Re: Ditch your sky router today !!!

      applogies if i am being a pleb (it wouldnt be the 1st time) however that is the username & P/W for your router, and NOT the username & p/w for sky broadband, so sure you will be able to create a network in your home, however NOT access the net through the sky broadband.

      you have to get the sky router to surrender the username and p/w (dead easy using the info on here) which you then record and plug into your otehr router.

      Re: Ditch your sky router today !!!

      try this..........

      pppoa_username=*************

      pppoa_password=***********

      after you gain access with the default username/password of admin/sky

      ok, now?
      Yep default and unique login which is tied to your Sky acount. If someone else use's that to log on to the Sky network at the same time as you, you may find your connection disabled. I would edit your post if I where you!!!!!!!!!!!

      Each router has a unique username and password which is registered on the Sky systems the first time you connect.

      Re: Ditch your sky router today !!!

      I haven`t given out any private information - all the information such as admin/sky or admin/password is supplied as standard - you have to change the password to something else later.

      You can`t just use an ordinary netgear router to connect to sky unless you configure it first with the information supplied in the previous post.
      Sorry but you are wrong the information you have given out is unique to your account and your router. Its the router admin page you can change the passwords to and your Sky.com account.

      I would strongly advise you to remove the information your have posted!!

      Hi

      I think it was removed for your own protection. If the information you posted was from your netgear.cfg file, that is unique to you, and you maybe disconnected from the internet next time you reboot your router etc. afaik the Username and Password that is in your router is unique to you.

      We are not being funny, we just don't want you to lose out by helping someone.

      There are many posts on the forum going back over at least the last 6 months which discuss and give details of how to use alternative routers to the Sky supplied one. These posts are freely available, indeed, some are even stickied.

      Posts will be edited or removed are when they break the forum rules. A recent example being a post of yours which contained offensive language masquerading as a password and username. Moderators will edit or remove any post they find which breaks the rules. That's their job.
