Hi again. You will need your original sky router to remove the username & password to set up another router, but 24 hours later and about 10 tests on speedtest.net have provided constant 5000kbs up and 650 kbs down for me.
I think it's against the terms of contract to use a 3rd party router, but i cant see there beign a problem while sky sort THERE problems out !!!
If anyone tries to use a different router you MUST set the (Respond to ping) option ON, or the router will disconnect.

PS. Please dont go giving out your private log on details !!!

you MUST set the (Respond to ping) option ON, or the router will disconnect.
You should also be aware that responding to Ping is a security risk.

If you don't mind me commenting 5000 kbps, is about one third of the speed you should expect if you really are 0.9k from your exchange. Maybe you would benefit from reading this section-

Re: Ditch your sky router today !!!

I gave up on the sky router yesterday.

1st i flashed to the standard netgear software, no joy, still unstable, tried upnp off, tried rebooting it at various intervals at night tried playing with the settings in that software given on the forum, but it still wouldnt give me a stable conection.

now using my old DLink G604T flashed to G624T and its made its 1st night through. am at 11 hours still going strong, and am constandly downloading at moment to test. Ever so slightly slower conection (10.2mb down, 730k up as opposed to varying between 10.5 & 13.5k down)

yes maybe my internal phone wireing isnt helping but i think it was foolish of sky to lock everyone into a router ESPECIALLY when its a router which clearly has issues if the phone line isnt perfect.

a little more homework from them would have picked up on this and they could have supported a more robust piece of hardware, if they really HAD to go down this route.

i just hope they dont decide to start doing mac address checks and locking everyone out. i dont see why they would.... end of the day their backs are covered, they dont have to offer any of us "rebels" any support now, so they done lose anything, infact i would rather use the sky router ideally as that is a 108bps router, my D-Link is only 54

We dont have adsl2+ here yet mate, and my lines max is 5.5mb so my 5000kbs is pretty good really.
On the ping side, can you connect with the sky router with it turned off ??

I've tested my DG834G with ping off and it works fine, so i guess you dont have to set it to repond to ping. When i was using the sky DG834GT i could not get a connection with respond to ping turned off !

Re: Ditch your sky router today !!!

Unfortunately there is no way for me to know what my sky username or password is yet as they havent sent me my router yet... and have made it clear it could be up to 7 days before I get it.

Fortunately they did refund my 30 activation fee, so I guess I could go and buy one from ebay as they seem to be going for about that price, but there is no guarantee that this would be with me before Sky get their acts together

So you are not on Sky Max as your details say, are you on Connect?

There is no reason why you cannot connect the Sky router, or any other router for that matter with Ping turned off. The only time you need to turn it on, is if Sky techs are checking your line.

I don't think this would help, as anyone with any sense would have flashed the router, removing their username/password, which you need to connect.
