Re: sky Netgear834GT router

The router uses custom firmware and trying to load the retail Netgear DG834GT code will merely produce an error message. The idea is that Sky will update the firmware when it feels like it -- and I think an update is planned. Some skyusers have instead applied the Netgear Recovery Utility (which I think wipes the Sky firmware) and then loaded the retail firmware. First you have to extract the concealed user name and password and reapply that once the new firmware is installed. See the tutorials here.

Some people report improved stability after this process, but it's against the terms of your contract and there's a risk that you'll break the router.

Re: sky Netgear834GT router

I tried normal uypdrade procdure but it fails with error message. Error message was like "ither firmware or hardware is not same". my router is 834GT and i tried to load same netgear firmware 1.02.09 using upgrade procedure on router as well as upgrade utility. but both case it fails.

You should be aware that flashing the firmware is a dangerous practice and can lead to your router being rendered useless. Unless you have a very good reason, it is better for beginners to leave well alone. Some experts on the forum have found little or no improvement using this procedure.

incase the other responses have not helped, just a quick note.

using my asus nforce 4 board, and the built in nforce network port i too couldnt see my router.

however on unplugging and plugging into the 2nd, 3rd party, network port which is also built into the motherboard, the router showed up and flashed as expected.

still didnt slove my disconections but thats another story.
