      Installing the Router

I have been using Sky broadband for 6 months and I sadly have had to reformat my computer.

I have gone to set it back up again and realise I have misplaced the instillation CD and my computer cannot "acquire network address" I have tried on my laptop and this is still working fine.

Does anyone on here no why I am not connecting, I imagine it's because I need the Routers drivers etc off the CD which I have lost. If so is there a link for the download of that initial CD sent through.

      Thanks in advance.

      Steve

I think you can be sure it won't be to do with anything you're missing from the CD. The CD isn't needed to get things going

No doubt better informed people will be able to to suggest what might be causing your problem soon.

There is nothing on the Sky CD that can help you with this. There are no drivers for the router.

Can you try it with the router wired into the PC?

      Re: Installing the Router

I suspect the only thing you need to do to connect your newly formatted machine to the router by wireless is to also start the laptop and copy the wireless adapter settings across by hand.

      Re: Installing the Router

I have gone out and bought another wireless card today and it has the exact same problem. It keeps connecting then disconecting from the net within seconds. LIke I mention the laptop is running fine I just can't understand why.
      Any ideas?

Have you tried to connect with all security, including firewalls, turned off?

      Re: Installing the Router

The "connecting then immediately disconnecting" thing rings a bell. Some wireless adapters behave like that if the password is incorrect. Are you sure you didn't change the wireless password on the router when you first got it, forgot that you did it, and are now trying to connect using the wireless password that Sky originally supplied to you?

If your PC has a network port (and chances are it has - it'll probably have a little symbol next to it consisting of a horizontal line, with lines coming off it joining to little pictures of computer screens) then you should try connecting that to one of the similar ports on your router, using an Ethernet network cable. One of these cables was supplied with the router, or you can buy one fairly cheaply from any computer shop.

You should be able to connect to the router configuration pages by typing http://192.168.0.1/ in the address bar of your web browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox, whichever you prefer to use). There you should be able to set the wireless password so that it matches what you're using with the wireless network adapter you got for your PC.
