      At Last.
Set it to 9 and it set itself to 10.1 which is fine.
It took ages because I had Bounce Sky Router running and it kept on rebooting.

When I was on connect the nm as always around 6 and as low as 5.5 but I never had a disconnect.
They changed me to mid about 10 days ago and for 5 days I didn't realise.
The speed was always around 6mbps and the nm was around 6.5. I did not have a single dropped connection.
When I upgraded to max it then started to drop the connection in the evenings.
During the day the router synched at 15000+ kbps with a nm around 7.
I only have one telephone connected to a NTE-2005 Master face plate.
      No other extensions.
I guess I will have to now see if the connection remains stable at this speed.

      Thanks again for your help

      One further question.
Can I assume that the connection becomes unstable when the nm drops below 7?

      yes.

i suggest you switch off the bounce util as (by setting the nm to 10db) you are effectively doing a manualy workaround in a different way to waht bounce does. having bounce running and manually upping the NM will be self defeating.
