      Sky Router Keeps Disconnecting

      hello

Ive had sky for 3 mouths and all it keeps doing is disconnecting. My first connection from u guys was a 12mg line and the noise margin was 6.3db and kept getting loss in online gaming, then i phoned sky about the problem and my line got reduced to 10mg and i still had problems, the noise margin was at 11.5 or 11.3 and it just kept going down to 5.0 or less so i phoned sky once again and they reduced it to 8mg and my noise margin is at 8.3 or 7.6 and it keeps doing the same thing..... grrrrr

      Re: Sky Router Keeps Disconnecting

A common problem is UPnP -- try turning this off in the router (details of how to address the user interface is in the help files on the Sky CD -- or see tutorials here).

You should probably also post your router stats on this forum and let someone advise you (see tutorials for how).

You might also download TCPOptimizer and see if MTU needs adjusting.

I think you should also understand that this forum has nothing to do with supplying your Broadband. It is an unofficial forum set up by non-sky employees to assist Sky users. This assistance is unofficial and is in no way connected with Sky Support.

      Re: Sky Router Keeps Disconnecting

Would be worth posting your detailed stats, use the proceedure below.

Go to the utility web site: Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4
Click the “Get” detailed modem stats button and click “OK”.
Enter the router login user name and password.
At the next screen, click the back button on your browser.
      Click the “Download” netgear.cfg button.
What you do next depends on your operating system. On Windows XP, click the “Save” button to save the file to your hard disk. (If you click “Open”, you may find that the file association is one that doesn’t handle carriage returns the same way as the router, hence the reason for saying “Save”.)
Open the file in WordPad (not notepad).

If i disable it, does the Router not allow any device to automatically control the resources, such as port forwarding (mapping), of the Router.

I think your analysis is correct, though I never do clever stuff like that myself. I can only tell you that on my rather marginal wireless connection turning off UPnP stopped the repeated disconnections I suffered at start-up.

Your stats look Ok, it would be worth trying the uPNP thing its a known bug in the router firmware, also try plugging your router into the test socket behind the face plate of your master socket.

Yes, you would have to open ports manually. It is probably worth trying it turned off, many have had good results doing this and others have found no difference. Advice on port forwarding is available at PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall if you need it.

Your stats look good however, you really need to run for a longer period. Errors are often generated in bursts over a short period, unless you run for a few hours, downloading as heavy as you can, these errors will not show.

^Correct I must have been a bit quick I missed the fact his router has only been running for 18 minutes.
