At first I thought it was better but even that freezes sometimes, and I prefer a wireless connection so my kids can use the Internet at the same time.

I have tried that and the same problem keeps on happening, really loosing faith in sky at the moment, I have had no other problems with anyother ISP and different routers on my computer.
Went and upgraded my broadband package for the 16mbit/s looks like its been a bit of a waste of money.

So you think that if i buy a new router most of my problems will be sorted?
(im thinking its to do with my router not the actual connection its self)

Post your detailed stats after running and downloading for a few hours. This should be done from a wired connection to the Master socket (Test Socket if you can manage) It is really pointless using wireless until you have sorted out any line/wiring faults. Read the first link on my signature for information on obtaining your detailed stats.
