I think amber means its connected at 10Mb/s and green at 100Mb/s.

Is the network card that port 1 connected to only a 10Mb card?

      Re: Amber/Green LAN LEDs

The laptop thats connected to port2 is using a pcmcia 10/100 card and the 100 light is lit, so i guess thats connected at 100mb/s.
Im not sure about the pc on port1, how do i find out/change it to 100?
Will that have any effect on internet speed?

Is it an ooolllllllldddd pc? Go to Network connections and then do a google for the Lan card model.

It won't impact your internet speed per se (as you are on Mid, the max you get is 8Mb, which i less than 10Mb).

      Re: Amber/Green LAN LEDs

Nah, the pc thats connected at 10mb/s is my quickest pc, with a pci d-link card.
The one connected at 100 is an old 333mhz laptop, lol.

Think i'll just leave it then, as you said its 10mbps, and im only currently connected to sky at 4.8.

      Re: Amber/Green LAN LEDs

well it should be green then. Perhaps a little waggle of the cable at both ends ensuring its properly pushed in will do it.

It won't affect you unless you transfer files between both PCs in which case your speed between both PC and Laptop will be significantly slower than it should be.

      Re: Amber/Green LAN LEDs

After checking system manager it seems my PCI lan card is only 10 mb/s and not 100.
      So that explains it,lol.

      Re: Amber/Green LAN LEDs

That surprises me a lot, but at least I was right on the reasoning for the amber light

I wouldn't have thought it was possible to get a 10Mb card post 2000.

They're dirt cheap to buy if you wanted a 100Mb one.

As its a new PC, isn;t there a lan port on the motherboard as well?
