Just got SKY - getting 450kbps! WHY!?!?

Finally, 2 days late, our Sky has been activated. We're on Connect at the mo until next month when we get upgraded to Max.

HOWEVER, the router shows 8Mbps yet a speed test came up with anything between 400kbps and 700kbps. Now I know you'll say I'm miles from the exchange, but i'm ONLY 200m from it!

      What do I do?!

Re: Just got SKY - getting 450kbps! WHY!?!?

firstly post your full detailed router stats (use mognuts util in my sig to get these)
      Are you wired or wireless?
Do a speed test from Namesco BroadbandMax ADSL Broadband Bandwidth speedtest | Test your ADSL Broadband connection speed and post the results
Remember Connect has a 10 day training period where it finds it's best speed so at times it will be very slow.

OK I just did a speed test and it's only 156kbps! THIS IS UNBELIEVABLY SLOW! I'm not paying money for this?! Why is it so bad!? Someone help please! I'm wireless.

Re: Just got SKY - getting 450kbps! WHY!?!?

i'm on broadband mid - supposedly up to 8mb. i'm using the netgear wireless router on a wireless connection. my neighbours get around 6-7mb connections.
the setup page of the router suggests i've my downstream connection is 4192kbps, but the bbmax tester says i'm only getting around 2mb. there is no other computer on my line, and my router is connected at the master socket (i've disconnected the rest of the telephone extensions to get the best result)

the btwholesale site says my line is capable of between 5.5 and 8mb.

      i have posted the results:

Re: Just got SKY - getting 450kbps! WHY!?!?

You have high CRC errors which wont help, when you say master socket have you tried the test socket behind the face plate of your master socket? and ru sure there is nothing else hardwired into the back of the master?

Re: Just got SKY - getting 450kbps! WHY!?!?

definitely - i have taken off the front plate and plugged straight into the telephone input there.

please see new diagnostics. netgear now showing 6464kbps but still only downloading at 2mb or so (see new bbmax result: Namesco BroadbandMax Bandwidth speedtest | Test your ADSL connection speed)

Re: Just got SKY - getting 450kbps! WHY!?!?

Well if nothing else connected then you may have a line problem. The attenuation on your stats says 15.5 which is a bug in the firmware I believe, rebooting it a few times will sometimes clear it, this wont fix your problem but will give an accurate measurement of your distance from the exchange which may be an issue. You could also log a call with BT and say you are getting intermitent noise on voice calls and get them to do some tests on the line but dont mention Sky broadband cos they wont want to know.
