Can I use my router to test a relatives line?

My sister is on Sky Connect & has lost internet connection. As she lives 50 Miles away it's not easy to "talk through" every option.
So a visit tomorrow is planned.
Is it legitimate to take my Sky router (I'm on Max) to her house for test purposes?
If there is a real problem, I want to be able to rule out her computer; router; & internal phone lines. (Hopefully just leaving the local exchange)
Would this break any Sky T&C bearing in mind it's only a short term test?

      Any feed back welcome,

      regards,

      Max.

In theory your router details are linked to your phone line and so you'd expect authentication to fail. However, this doesn't seem to be the case and people have found that they can authenticate successfully on another line. This doesn't of course mean that you will be able to - you'll just have to try it and see.

With regard to T&Cs I've no idea. Quite possibly you will be breaking them but as many people wilfully break them every day I think the likelihood of you getting any comeback for a quick test is rather low. You'll have to make that decision though.

Re: Can I use my router to test a relatives line?

I don't think you need worry about breaking sky's T&C, what is more worrying is whether it will work at all. My main concern is whether your username and password is tied to a particular exchange. If it is, then your modem is not going to work on a different exchange. I would have thought that they are tied to a particular exchange, but I am not sure. But that's what you need to find out...
