      Router Help Please

Hi, i have a problem with the router, it's all installed and i can connect to the internet fine with it but i can't get onto the router configuration (http://192.168.0.1) because of the password, now i've tried "admin" "sky" and anything else i could imagine it being but no luck, i heard resetting the router to factory settings would change it back so i tried pressing and holding the reset button - all that seemed to do was alternatly flash the power light green and the tick orange and still can't access it, if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated - we got the router wednesday this week i think (20/6/07)

      Re: Router Help Please

I assume that you are entering the IP address in Internet Explorer or Firefox etc.

Is the router login box is appearing and you are entering the user name and password into that ??

If that box doesn't appear, there's a problem with your connection to the router. Are you using wireless to connect or a cable (preferable) ?

In Windows XP go Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command prompt and type ipconfig /all and press return. This should display your connection to the router. If the gateway is not 192.168.0.1 but a slight variant you could try that.

Wired connection, yes the login box is appearing but it just won't accept the username/password, keeps throwing the box back up at me and in IE7 after 3 attempts it gives me an error page from the router asking me to contact my admin

      Re: Router Help Please

Try calling SKY. Apparently they can access the Router from their computer screen. Thats what they did to my router to get it fixed. Its amazing

      OR maybe

u wrote down the password in Caps Lock (It happens)

And also write down the admin as "admin" and not "Admin" same with the password

      Re: Router Help Please

i will try it but i don't like the idea that they can access my router, isn't that a security risk?? also, whats the correct way to reset the router? i'm not sure i did it right (i'm a n00b with Netgear)

      Re: Router Help Please

I think hold the button in for 10 seconds with the power on. Really, you shouldn't have to reset it unless you've changed the password from the default.

You're not by any chance enclosing the user name and password in quote marks are you.....?

Try - user- admin (this is the default for all Netgear routers)
password- 1234 (this was the original Netgear default, newer routers should use password, but you never know )
