      sky router vs my router

      Hi all

Basically my problem is when i connect with sky router i normally synch at 1984 or around that figure, however when i use my old trendnet TEW-435BRM router i always sync at over 2500.

i understand due to my distance from exchange im not going to get any better, hence the reason why a whole 1/2 meg of line speed is important to me.

Im just curious to why this happens,is it because the netgear is a poor router,or do sky throttle the linespeed somehow?

I phoned them up moaning about ping too,and was told interleaving would be staying on my line..but a few days later my ping dropped from an average of 70 down to 45,is that just a coincidence or am i just one of the lucky few that sky actually did something about?

Sky also capped my line to 3mb to try and erradicate errors on my line or something, but im still getting 3 or 4 disconnections, normally in the night...im putting that down to a contention thing due to happening at peak times...but still my old isp could hold a steady 2.5mb profile on adsl max for days on end..

Any input on the above would be appreciated

      thankyou.

alas the sky router is pants - not the router more the sky firmware i think

i could never get a decent connection ( upload kept dropping out all the time) - tried a new router prior to departing and it was solid - enough proof for me

My Sky router is perfect. The only problem I have had is the UPnp, and the MSN bug at midnight.

Re: sky router vs my router

Well I spent 3 month's swearing at the Sky router for drop outs, Tried a different make of router which was better but still dropped out ocasionally, tried loading netgear firmware to the Sky router etc etc etc. Eventually with help from this forum found I had dodgy extension wiring. I am now back on my original Sky router with Sky firmware and haven't had a single disconnection or drop in speed for 4 month's!!

As Newsreader says, it is worth posting your detailed stats to see if anything can be spotted.

Hello again and thanks for your replies.

Ok,i reluctantly set my sky router back up and took the stats straight away, the time was roughly 5am.
As expected a sync of 1984 which is very disappointing as my other router syncs at around 2500.
A little more info if u need it:
I have an inline filter socket fitted by BT so i think that possibly eliminates a wiring problem as an engineer fitted that due to previous problems.
I really dont know what to do apart from go back to my old router,it held a connection well with my old isp and did with sky up until about a week ago, when, now im getting 2 or 3 disconnections only in the night after about 8pm.
I hope you can give some advice here to why the sync is diff from my other router...like said previously,im not expecting miracles due to my attenuation etc...but a full half meg of speed is effectively one fifth of my connection speed which im losing out on.

I would expect a few problems with your line...... It looks like it is at the limit of lines that that can carry BB....

You need to run the router for a few hours b4 taking the stats but within the first 26 minutes you are showing CRC errors, could be just the length of the line but I would try the test socket behind the face plate of the master, just to eliminate any internal problems.

Thats interesting. I might try my old Belkin router to see if its better than my Sky router....

I was going to flog it on ebay...

Currently I'm syncing at about 1800kbps with sky router.

Re: sky router vs my router

sorry guys,8 hours is long enough for the sky router...my only conclusion is its a bag of ****e

Im very very disappointed with sky at present, after spending a week to speak to 1 person at their tech support who knew what a ping time was didnt inspire much.

thanks for you contributions here guys, and i hope if anything i may have inspired a couple to dump the sky box...also atreaming video wirelessley is useless too.i can watch video fine on my laptop streamed from another pc with trendnet router,it just stutters and freezes with netgear.

      once again ty.
