Unhappy Help.. No connection for 2 days.

I have had no connection for the last 2 days!
Infact its been dropping connection for a couple of weeks now.
I have reset the router with the rear reset hole, do I need to do anything to restore the settings.
I left it switched off last night and after an hour it connected this morning.

I have a BT filter plate fitted to the master socket as well as an RF filter and Lan cable going to my router.
      Here are my stats.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3104 kbps 352 kbps
Line Attenuation 63.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 6.8 db 7.0 db

Do I need to contact Sky and have the Noise margin raised by BT o gve a more stable connection?

      Thanks for any Help.

Re: Help.. No connection for 2 days.

You need to post your detailed stats using the proceedure below, this may give us a better idea of whats going on, thats assuming the router has been synced with the exchange for any length of time.

Go to the utility web site: Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4
Click the “Get” detailed modem stats button and click “OK”.
Enter the router login user name and password.
At the next screen, click the back button on your browser.
      Click the “Download” netgear.cfg button.
What you do next depends on your operating system. On Windows XP, click the “Save” button to save the file to your hard disk. (If you click “Open”, you may find that the file association is one that doesn’t handle carriage returns the same way as the router, hence the reason for saying “Save”.)
Open the file in WordPad (not notepad).

Re: Help.. No connection for 2 days.

You seem to have some problems with your line, CRC errors are low but you are getting alot of LOS "Loss off signal" I think that means. Also attenuation very high, are you a long distance from the exchange? Is your router plugged into an extension? If so try plugging into the test socket which is hidden behind the face plate of the BT master socket assuming you have an NTE5. this will be the first socket as the line comes into the house. Run the router there for a few hours and post the stats again. Extension wiring can be a major source of problems.

Re: Help.. No connection for 2 days.

      Hi

My Attenuation has always been high. I had BT to it through my previous ISP.
He fitted the NTE5 master with a BT filter built in, he also fitted an RF Filter.
I do use a 15m extension but this is Cat5 cable (he said the cat5 cable was fine)
I will try it on the back plate later as my network is wired with 3 PC's and a wireless laptop running through the LAN and I don't want to upset everyone.
I have raised my Noise margin to 9db, would this help?

      Here is my latest config.

Re: Help.. No connection for 2 days.

Raising your SNR may help but will reduce your connection speed which it has, it's best to get to the route of the problem. I notice on your second set of stats you have conciderable CRC errors!
One thing worth checking on your extension or extensions is that only pins 2 and 5 are connected at both ends, disconnect any other wires, one in particular is a ring/bell wire and is no longer needed for modern phones but is known for causing noise on the line. I think BT still connect it anyway.

I just checked the back of the NTE5 master and only 2 wires are connected.
I have unplugged the SkyHD Receiver modem cable to see if that makes a differance.
