      New Router Delivered

      Hi,

I had a router where there must have been a fault with the ethernet ports because it always gave Limited or No Connectivity Errors.

Anyhow Sky replaced the router which is plugged in this morning but I'm constantly getting CHAP AUTHENTICATION FAILED.

After phoning tech support they informed me to wait 48 hours for the internet to come back... is this right?

I'm thinking they just haven't updated the fact I have a new modem with possible new login details??

      thoughts?

No login details are not tied to your account, any Sky router will work on any Sky connection. Unless being a new router its details haven't been added to there system yet.

The router should have been shipped out with the login details,
      @Koala5,
No login details are not tied to your account
I would have thought it was, As it needs to be registered with that Local Exchange, Which will approve the CHAP.

Sky router will work on any Sky connection
That afaik isnt correct, There might be a chance if both the connections are on the same Local Exchange/Loop, Otherwise, I would have expected it too fail.

Trust me it's correct, I am in possession of 3 Sky routers from varoius sources and they all connect on my line with no alterations to password usernames etc. Much to my supprise.

One of them is deffinately not from my exchange area, I am not too techy but just assumed that the Sky systems just have a list of login details which they will allow on there network, which give Sky the ability to swap routers arround adlib without having to worry about setting them up.

      Re: New Router Delivered

Well this router STILL isn't going connected with the same error and CS keep saying to switch it off and then back on and leave for a minute with no luck still...

any ideas? I think the new router they've supplied isn't set up to authenticate on the Sky platform... but support either won't listen or don't understand that..

      Re: New Router Delivered

Try switching it off for 40 mins, then switch on and see if it connects. If it doesn't, it is likely its details have not been entered in Sky's system.

      Re: New Router Delivered

For future events like this you might want to extract your password...instructions can be found with a little searching although it's kinda against the Sky contract.

Username is the routers MAC address@skydsl and the password is a random 10 digit hex code.

      Re: New Router Delivered

Same boat here, line activated on 23rd May, router arrived on 31st, plugged in and line synced but CHAP failure, rang them up got as far as level 2 where they said the same leave it on for 48 hours and Mary Poppins will fly over and fix it magicly. 48 hours later amazingly router still reports CHAP failure. Rang sky again managed to get to level 2 just and they ran some tests on the line and said its failed to login 2000+ times. Well thats what the problem was 3 days ago you boons, anyway they said they will have to send out a new router, so i have to wait another 5 days to see if this fixes it.

Yours another unhappy sky boradband customer

      Re: New Router Delivered

I think this may be connected to the story that a batch of routers were sent out without having their details entered into the system.
