      New Modem/Router

Hi chaps, I am cap in hand for some advice.
My Sky broadband is very hit and miss and sometimes it is off for whole days (It has been off 2 out of the last 3 Fridays for some reason) my question is- I am going to purchase a new isdn modem router just a wired one, can I simply plug it in and thatís it or does it need configuring in some way? I am going for a different make just to rule out the Netgear modem being the problem. Thanks for any advice.

      Re: New Modem/Router

you will need to extract the user/pass from your sky router

many threads in this forum on how to do that a few utilities to help you do that too

this tool will help you do that

i better point out its against sky's T+C to do that but you will see many do that

I have just ordered a new master socket from ASDL nation to try first as reccomended on here, It might be best to try the small stuff first.
      Thanks for the help though.

Just to add, don't go buying an ISDN modem, it will not work with broadband, you need an ADSL one.

      Re: New Modem/Router

Thanks my mistake, (ADSL) Its 10.30pm and my internet has just started working again, It has been off since 2pm! is it possible that they keep turning my connection off if they think I have got near my download limit? would I get a message to say so first or would they just simply pull the plug? I have 40meg limit and don't download movies or MP3's just general surfing and new drivers.
I am totaly fed up and considering NTl/Virgin again but not looking forward to all the hassle of changing it back.

Not according to other reports on the forum. Many seem to have exceeded their limit with no come back. Most ISPs will give a warning before taking any action, I don't see why Sky should be any different. In fact, there is some doubt that Sky can actually measure individual bandwidth yet.

      Re: New Modem/Router

I thought that was the case, (No limit within reason). The strange thing is the modem Internet light remains lit when my connection is off and Outlook Express can tell me how many emails are waiting for me but cannot download them and I can’t access any websites.
It seems I can upload but not download, has anybody seen this before? Last night it suddenly came back on at 10.30pm without me doing anything, I have even tried a new PCI network card just in case it was the onboard network adapter but it is no better. Cheers for any advice.

Have you checked your firewall is not blocking you? If you are using a software one try turning it off for a while, see if it makes any difference. It could be corrupted.
