If your personal details are correct, you are on the Connect package. This has a training period of about 10 days, during which time the speed will fluctuate until the line has trained. During this period you should reboot your router at least once a day to allow it to re-sync with the exchange. Don't even think of trying to upgrade your router or tweak it in any way until this period is up. At best you should download and install TCPOtimiser on your PC. Read the help pages to allow you to set it up properly.

Note - When downloading always select the Custom install or you will end up with stuff you don't want.

I've managed to solve this problem tonight by constantly downloading large files and have been connected for about 2 hours now although this is obviously not a permanent solution!

Should I try a firmware upgrade? My version at the moment is 1.0.28

      My firmware version is V1.02.28

What's the latest firmware number from sky for the netgear router?

If you have the V1 white router, thats the correct version number. (at least the official Sky one)
