As you are obviously using the "same" modem - perhaps you could come back and tell us how the two compare it would be very informative

Roundup

I have just followed these threads and can summarise my experience which may help.

The router provided (Sky branded DG834GT) has the username and password hidden. There is a way to get at it that I found by browsing other sites. The method is really easy and involves entering 2 addresses through the browser once logged in to the router. The first one copies the settings to a file on the router and the second downloads this text file to your pc.

I have used this password and username to login using a different router (my own old Netgear DG834G). This worked although it lost sync very regularly so I went back to the sky provided router. It does mean however that I now have a backup option. If sky are to use the router MAC address to stop you using your own router they are not doing it yet!

VPN works fine for me without any settings change on the router. I can login to my work VPN site using cisco software without any problems.

My only gripes have been not being able to use rapidshare.de as this site doesn't recognise the sky IP addresses and the sky portal doesn't work for me so I can't use sky webmail.

I have had a strange experience with the portal. I already had a username and password for sky.com before signing up to broadband. Broadband used my old username but gave me a new broadband password. The sky broadband password does not work the portal, but my old sky.com one does although I cannot see my mail. Sky say this is becauae the portal is still not working correctly. Just to confuse matters further I can access my mail using pop3 through outlook (pop.sky.com and smtp.sky.com). This pop login uses the new broadband password. So it seems that both passwords are valid for different purposes.

Don't try using the india support desk. They were useless. It was clear that they were just working off a faq list and gave me the closest match to my question rather than one that was relevant. For example to login to the portal they told me to use admin as the user and sky as the password. These are for the login to the router, not the portal!

Dream on.

The password and username you have are for logging into the Sky portal.

The password and username you need are hidden within your Sky router (but can be extracted). No Sky router - no password and username.

Sorry to disappoint you.

Re: wireless card

Right click MY COMPUTER and select MANAGE
Click on DEVICE MANAGER

Expand NETWORK ADAPTERS

What do you see there?

Is the network card.

On the back of your PC below normally where the keyboard and mouse plug in, you should see a small hole, that the cable from the Sky Router will fit in. Try that.
