Ged, IIRC the plusnet issue was an incompatibillity between hella / the junipers and the netgear routers; which caused the disconnects...
|
yep that was the thing that the guy sorted out and it stopped after that
still dont support multicast tho

and the wireless works!
setting up the router is a piece of cake as well.
You can have it automated via the cd, all you really need is your username and password, and it will do the rest by itself.
If you want to host games on your home pc, you will need to open ports etc on it. Again a piece of cake.
Overall its a good router, just wasa bit crumby on another ISP

Which as mentioned earlier in the thread (incase anyone missed it) was fixed by that ISP's techies and I can personally confirm now works on the ISP with no problems.

Been doing some reading on this router, seems it is very bad at P2P apps...a tactic by Sky?
Would be strange since their own 'by broadband' service is built on P2P technology (I think it is anyway?).

welcome to skyuser Warp Man
cant say i have had any probs on p2p, i think P2P in general is been hampered by most ISP's at the moment anyway

Thanks for the welcome.
I've read a good number of articles about this router not liking multiple connections, seems like it likes to crash or reset itself...there are fixes, but out of the box it seems a little finicky. Glad you had no problems though.
Luckily my ISP, Demon, don't hamper P2P programs - although they are introducing a FUP for their 8mb product (the first in their history).
Most ISPs are now going the way of introduicng FUPS and usage limits, and I think this is generally the right thing to do - what I don't like is when they sneakily close ports so that you can't use your programs. A FUP is the best way to do things, as it means you can use your P2P but only at specified times (i.e overnight). It's the fairest option to stop the 24/7 downlaoders.

as far as we can determine if you abuse the downloading on SKY you will get put on a Bad Boys Gateway and then you have your speed lowered as you all compete to download the internet
As for FUP - it had to happen, your right the way some ISP's have done it underhandedly is bang out of order!
