      My Sky internet / router.

Hello there. I'm new here, and I need some help... Basically, I can switch on my laptop, connect to the Sky Router using my IntelProSet/Wireless, and surf the internet. Now here's the problem I get. Sometimes, I can stay connected online for a good few hours, but other times, I get disconnected within every 5 minutes. I don't know what the problem is, I try to load a webpage, and it just doesn't load. I can then manually disconnect from the router, connect back to it, and then I'm able to go back online again, but the problem keeps repeating itself... Can anyone please help me?

      Thanks, Jay.

Hi there, sorry I haven't got time or be bothered to type it all again but search the forum for "uPNP bug" its a setting in the router, if that dosen't help look in the "router stats" section also search on disconnections. Theres lots of useful tips and fix's all over this forum.
      Good Luck.

Hey Koala, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I tried disabling the uPnP, but that didn't work either. I have just searched the forums for this "router stats" section, but I cannot find it... Could anyone with more knowledge of these forums help me or direct me in the right direction?

      Thanks again, Jay.

LOL i have the same problem, just recieved a new router, and that does the same thing as well,
netgear suck, period, i'm going to carry on using my own router, because it
      works perfectly, unlike crappy netgear,
i want sky to send me another box that isn't netgear, until then
      they can shove their agreement.

type 192.168.0.1 that takes you into router stats and check for noise [db] anything below 5.5 db will cause the router to fall out ,also if you use mcafee try another av as it causes probs as well

Re: My Sky internet / router.

Okay, I found the Router Status page. For some reason, the uPnP was turned back on. I also changed the name of the Router to Sky Netgear, and changed the channel to 6. -> From what I've heard, 1, 6 and 11 are the best channels. I checked the Statistics page out, the speed I'm getting is just below 4mbps and the downstream db is barely above 5.5. It's around the 5.9 - 6.5 area. This is what I have done so far. Any more help with be very much appreciated.

Thank you for the help so far!

Re: My Sky internet / router.

Okay, after I unchecked the uNpN box, and changed the router channel, all was okay. I was successfully online for about 2 constant hours, until suddenly, the connection went down. I went into the Router Status, and checked the statistics. I found out that the db had dropped below 5.5, down to 3.4. Is there any I can get my db up higher and stay above 5.5?

Re: My Sky internet / router.

Yep obtain your detailed stats using this Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4 and post it in the router stats thread with the title "can someone check this out for me" and we will have a look, it will give details of errors logged on your line. Some problems can be caused by poor extension wiring etc, It would be a good idea to obtain the stats now, then reposition your router at the master phone socket thats the first one if it isn't already there and if possible remove the face plate of the socket there should be a test socket behind there if it is an NTE5, plug the router in there for a few hours then run the stats again, by removing the face plate it disconnects any extension wiring, hence isololating the problem to BT external wiring or your internal wiring.

BTW DO NOT use the utility to fix your noise ratio at a higher level as this will reduce your speed, Its best to find the fault and only use that as a last resort.
