      Network Key????

Hope you can help. Am new to Sky Broadband. I have tried to set up the Sky router and it says that the broadband is connected but when i enter the 8 digit network key that Sky has provided it isn't recognized. I rang Sky and they said to contact Dell as i have a Dell inspiron laptop. Dell told me to go back to Sky saying it's not their problem. Sky then told me to go to PC World! Can anyone tell me if there is a way to change the network key. I'm not at my laptop right now but the message that pops up says something like i must have a 5 or 10 character password? Something to do with WEP?? i previously used a BT router with madasafish without these problems.
      Many thanks for any solutions!

Hi thanks for reply. Not being at my laptop (i'm stuck at work) doesn't make things easy but last night I tried typing 192.168.0.1 but the connect box with user name/password didn't come up,as on the link you posted, just another error message.

      Re: Network Key????

How old is your laptop? I had a similar problem with my mates IBM laptop which was about 3 years old and it didn't support WPA which is what the Sky router is set to by default. If you connect to the router with the cable then go into the router menu by typing 192.168.0.1 into internet explorer the router menu should appear, the username is admin and the password is sky. Once in the menu you can then go into the wireless settings and change the sercurity from WPA to WEB, you may need to make up a passkey for it. Or you can find WEP key generators by searching on Google.

Just a thought - the network key is case sensitive, did you enter it in capitals?
