Alas I cannot claim the kudos for this advice. It is on the Sky homepage under Broadband Support-Troubleshooting. Anyway I'm pleased you have rectified this annoyance! By the by the Primary DNS server still caused the same problem that's why I suggested the secondary.

Have you tried checking the modem to see if the DNS is set correctly when you first power up?

Re: Why is Router reboot required on startup?

Following Nala's lead, the Troubleshooting section under Broadband in Customer Services Sky.com website advised (before forcing the the DNS address) resetting the TCP/IP settings for the NIC on my PC - and this did the trick, with my DNS settings back to auto.

Problem solved - the router was working OK all along - although I have now got a replacement router anyway!

Of slight concern is that Sky Tech. Support did not suggest these options before volunteering to send me out a replacement router!!!

Sky CS are what I would describe as technically challenged. It hardly surprises me that they have not even read their own support manual.
