      Router Hell!!!

I posted this at first in the gaming forum but it now appears to be a more general problem.

My line was activated at the weekend after using BT Broadband for some time. I swapped over the router and my PC connected wirelessly without a problem. Coolio! Next I opened ports 88 and 3074 for my Xbox 360, set it's static IP to 192.168.0.3, and turned off UPnP. All network tests passed and my NAT was returned as open. The 360 connects through ethernet cable. Perfect.

However I have a problem. If I sign into Xbox Live the PC loses connection. If I fix the PC the Xbox gets kicked. The router seems to reset, or drop the line and reconnect.

Tonight I have discovered that if I connect both the PC and the Xbox to the router using cables everything works. The PC seems a little slow, but it doesn't disconnect. So obviously there is something going wrong on the wireless side. It's set to channel 11, b&g at the moment.

Now while I am somewhat relieved that I can get my conection working I am not too hapy with the fact that I now have even more bloody cables running all over the place. Sky are sending me a new router, but I am sceptical that there is a fault with this one.

Any ideas?! The girl at Sky that I talked to was very nice but I don't think she new much beyond what her screen was telling her. It is the first support call that I have made where I was asked if I had a fish tank though, which made it worth the call. Any help gratefully received!!!

Sounds like both are trying to connect to the same IP 192.168.0.3

Unplug the Xbox and connect the PC by wifi, then got o the wireless network connections and check the IP if its the same you will have to change one of them.

      Re: Router Hell!!!

You and me both!! On my BT account I used a DLink router, set leasing from 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.200 then gave the Xbox 360 a static IP of 192.168.1.10. Never had any problems.

I don't get this at all. With everything cabled I don't have any problems, it's only when I try to go wireless from the PC it goes wrong!! Aaaargh! I'm not even sure now that sky are to blame. I think I am just thick.

Maybe I should look into this when I am Vodka assisted.

      Odd.

Dunno if it'll help, but you don't need to use static IPs. You can leave everything on auto / obtain IP via DHCP, but still effectively have static IPs by using the "Address Reservation" feature in the router's admin page [Under "LAN IP Setup" in the "Advanced" section at the bottom on the left].

Hmm, I have the 360 on that list but not the PC. Maybe it's just a faulty router. Here's hoping!
