Ah ha! Would you be so kind as to do a little experiment that will confirm a suspicion of mine: can you swap the ADSL user names and passwords over from one router to the other and see if they still connect? (PM me if I'm talking gibberish.)
      Cheers

I have only flashed one of the 2 routers, because I want to keep the orginal router standard i.e. Sky firmware incase I have any issues and have to involve Sky at any point in which case I will put the original router on rather sharpish!!
But the router I am connected to at the moment is a Sky router which I have flashed back to Netgear firmware and I am using the username and password from my original router i.e. the other one. This router also connects fine if I enter the original username and password that was in it.

This is very exciting news for me (really!) - thank you very much for that. It confirms (not that there was any doubt but I do like incontrovertable evidence) that the mac address definitely is not used.

So you dont have to change the routers mac address, because i just tried using my router on another connection (be unlimited) and it wouldnt work unless you change the mac address on the router

      Re: firmware

I can't speak for other ISPs - the mac thing only refers to Sky's ADSL authentication.
