I had four stones on my dessert dish the other day. Does that mean anything?

Sky haven't got to where they are through luck, they've worked bloomin hard and invested a fortune.

I personally think Sky deserve to win this battle and am really looking forward to whatever they have up their sleeves.
NO offence but Sky is owned 30% by news corp. Sky has money rolling out it's ears! And it aint like Murdoch raised the sky baby to what it is. I am all for sky but i feel they are pushing any chance of NTL Virgin Media to compete. Virgin Media still have the best ineternet. Sky's intenet will continue to suck ass untill they get a different router in! This netgear one aint user friendly at all. To the average person this thing is hell! silly por forwarding etc. Anyways back to the subject. Sky is pushing everyone else out the picture so eventually they will be the only pay tv in uk.

Sky will soon launch there own phone lines
      Freeview service (different from FreeSat)
      Optical BB
Merge with Google for the Email loggin on the site

So if sky dont launch their own phone lines then that leaves the customer with less choice.
      Same with freeview etc.

the whole point of competition is to improve things for the consumer. You can't say that Sky aren't allowed to have a monopoly and then not allow them branch out into other areas to improve competition there. By sky launching their own phone service it improves competition.

On another similar point. sky have had their monopoly on premiership football removed from next season. As a consumer I have to pay out 15pm more to be able to watch the same amount of footy.... so is competition good or bad for the consumer. Is a monopoly good or bad for the consumer.

As for the router, you mention an average user...... well I consider myself more than an average user when it comes to IT and the router does me fine. In fact everyone I know who has sky has not once complained about the netgear functionality. Remember, you get what you pay for, sky is offering the consumer a cheap broadband service. If you expect to have a great router, webspace, newsgroups etc etc etc, then sky is not for you and you need a more expensive ISP.

So are you suggesting that Virgin Media is a small company with no money?

      the Virgin group have:

      Entertainment Retial outlets
      Train Service
      Plane service
      Mobile phone
      Internet
      Pay TV

and that's just the tip of the iceburg when you look at Virgin.com - The global gateway to the Virgin Group.

Take a look at sky.com and its just:

      PayTV
      Internet
      Phone

How on earth virgin have the bottle to claim they are the minnows I will never know!

Re: Something big is on the cards....

With regards to Newsreader's original post on this:

I read in the paper yesterday that Freeview are to launch Freeview Plus, which will have all the functionality of Sky+, but no charge.

Maybe now this has been announced Sky may drop there 10 charge, which we all know is free if you have more than one premium channel.

Once it is available, which it said would be soon, I will be getting it and cancelling Sky.

Why be forced to take out premium channels just to have the Sky+ facility?
