Well we'll see seems to be a few posts on DigitalSpy about it. There was a good point made though that Sky would loose a lot of money by dropping the 10 charge. Obviously the 1st of July will be an interesting date but it is a long way off.

      This is now 100% confirmed

From July 1st Sky subscribers will no longer pay for the SKY + recording feature.

This "rumour" does seem to be gathering more momentum than previously, however in what way is this 100% confirmed? I cannot imagine Sky will confirm this until it actually happens as that would be commercially very fool hardy.

I spoke to Sky last night. I am a Sky+ user and have just downgraded to 2 mix @ 15 a month with no 10 charge. The gentleman I spoke to confirmed that as of 1st July Sky will no longer charge 10 for Sky+. He also confirmed that sky now hope to make Sky+ the standard box. The CS rep told me that this had been a great success over the last week and a half.

So to recap, it has been confirmed to me that the 10 charge will be dropped as of 1st July. Current Sky+ customers can take advantage of it now.

      Hey DJS

Cheers for that heads up, I immediately called Sky and asked them about it and they instantly confirmed that the Sky+ charge is to be dropped and they have now been officially briefed to this effect. Seems like it's from July 1st, but if you have the Sky+ installation after June 20th then you won't be liable to any charge at all (the weird way their accounting system works).
The cost is the standard 99.00 for the box and then 60.00 for the install, unless you have multi-room then free install and 10.00 multi-room sub per month.

The long and the short of it.....booked my installation for June and looking forward to having Sky+ at long last.

No problem mate. I am personally really pleased at the price drop because I can enjoy having a very good PVR and paying a more reasonable price of 15 to be able to watch a view extra channels. Nice one Sky.

Well all I can say is that is great news spcdust!

We knew it was coming, just had no definitive date (or no one would commit themselves to telling us)

I may even get Sky+ myself now, as I was holding back for the drop.

Re: Something big is on the cards....

I just tried to downgrade and was told by three different teams including a cancellations/retentions manager that they wouldn't drop the 10 Sky+ charge until the 1st June. This was because I'm still 'in contract' with Sky broadband which requires a TV sub. Essentially, as I couldn't threaten to cancel they just laughed me out the door.

Still, it's only a couple of weeks. Would be interested to hear if anyone else who is 'in contract' manages to pull it off though.
