The only surprise is that the sports and movie channels are staying on Virgin, at least for the time being.

Presumably the premium channels stay because
      customers pay the going rate.
Virgin are not prepared to pay what Sky want
for the Sky non premium channels.
So who is bluffing - Sky or Virgin?
Or is this just a public negotiation on price?

This wont be good if Virgin pull there channels from sky, i tend to watch them all more then sky one (eg uktv trouble ect) That might attually make me move from sky to virgin (the dark side!!)

I think Sky have to provide the premium channels to other providers under current regulations. Something to do with them having a large majority of services on these channels that other companies can't compete with such as live premier league football etc

Genius, even if Sky don't go through with it, enough potential Virgin customers will now be having second thoughts and may well go the Sky route.

This news is hardly surprising now these two are rivals for the pay tv market. The only surprise is that the sports and movie channels are staying on Virgin, at least for the time being.
Virgin owns part of UKTV and owns all of Trouble,Living,Bravo,Challange,FTN and others

I didn't realise that so thanks. Can't say I will miss those channels (apart from UKTV) though if they were to disappear from the Sky platform.

You wont have to miss them, Sky recently agreed a reduced price with Virgin Media to be able to show them.

Re: Sky to pull major channels from Virgin Media

I think Sky have just stitched Virgin Media and are trying to claw as many VM customers as possible.

The problem with Virgin / Blueyonder etc, is the lack of ability to lay cable etc. The area where I work has less than 50% coverage in a 4 mile square radius. I think Sly are just flexing their muscle power / financial and are not about to roll over. This is a fight to the end. And we all know who is going to win.
