Sky partners with Devialet to launch new Sky Soundbox

This is a discussion on Sky partners with Devialet to launch new Sky Soundbox within the Sky news and announcements forums, part of the SkyUser Announcements category; Panasonic has AGC for audio level, you can set it to whatever you like. The presets are tonal, not level....

I understand that. As a hearing aid wearer tonal is important to me. YMMV

So, the Soundbox is going to be released to buy very soon. Sky have had reviewers testing the box and the reviews I have seen so far have been incredibly favourable.
I am inclined to go for it. Any views from others? Going to buy or leave it?

I’m tempted, but torn as to whether to hold out for a more reasonably priced Dolby Atmos piece of kit or not. Coupled with that, I don’t quite know how it would sit in my lounge as the tv is on a cabinet/bench with little room for the soundbox however, I did read somewhere that it is also optimised to work in a compartment (which I have underneath the tv and would use) but I just don’t see how that could or would work.

I have a similar set up. A glass shelved stand open at the sides although I have a large amp on the same shelf that the soundbox would sit alongside so not ideal. One solution I have considered is a TV riser stand to raise the height of the TV such that the box could then sit on the same shelf in front of the TV. I can't seem to find a suitable riser shelf though.
Definitely interested in the Soundbox however.

Bit the bullet today having read some reviews and ordered one. The guy I spoke to at Sky told me they are having an unexpectedly high demand and although they are giving priority to the likes of myself who pre registered an interest there might be a delay of up to three weeks. He does hope however for it to be in five days.

I have Sky Q but am happy with my AV amp. But I have an old 2gb HD box linked to another TV for Freesat channels but the sound is not great. I presume that I could link the soundbox to this old box? I am not willing to spend 99 on installing another Minibox and in any case would still need to improve the sound.

I guess you could but, as I understand it, the Sky Soundbox is built specifically with Sky Q in mind in that the various audio adaptations are sewn into the Sky Q broadcast metedata. So whilst it might work with other equipment I believe the major audio benefits are achieved when used with Sky Q.

Aha, thanks for that. I had not appreciated those facts. I will do some more digging.

Just a thought, Sky are offering the Soundbox at a discount to Q subscribers. Which implies that non Q users can buy it albeit at a higher price. Why would they do that if it was not compatible with their boxes?
