Is it just mine or does anybody else have the problem with the back rubbery cover of the remote sort of breaking up and going nasty?

I've never had it going nasty but I find at some point it tears. It becomes thinner and thinner until it one day tears. Usually takes a year or two.

Someone I met yesterday said that they've bought all the Star Wars remotes and is keeping them unused. In 10 years or so they'll be worth a good deal more than they are today.

That's it sort of breaking up and "nasty"

It can stay that way, it's not life threatening.
