      Re: Sky Q

Just had a look at the new boxes at a local Sky Retail Store. Sadly they were only empty plastic cases but there were two very similar boxes one black, the other white, in the style of (though smaller than) the Sky Q mini which at first glance I took to be the new broadband hub.

      Re: Sky Q

Found it on the Sky website:
      Sky Wireless Booster (scroll down)
      New Sky Q Wireless Booster

      What’s new?

The new booster with 5GHz compliments the Sky Q Hub. When used together, the Sky Q Booster will act as an additional hotspot for household devices on 2.4GHz and 5GHz, connecting to the Sky Q Hub over Wi-Fi
      How can I get one?

Only Sky Broadband customers with a Sky Q Hub will be able to purchase a Sky Q Wireless Booster.

the price is just too high for me anyway, I don't "need it". Its more of a want, I'd rather faster internet speeds -.-

      Thats the current sky booster.
We tested the version that had 5ghz way back on the last of the three or four trials we had.
If I remember, there were two versions like SB105/6
Have four of them in my loft, that sky send to us for the trials.

I thought the mini were supposed to act as a wifi booster anyway, so why would they add these too.

This is what I was referring to and I don't see the point of it either. Having said that I never really saw the point of the original booster other than marketing hype.Sky Q-sky_q_booster.jpg

Tons of them on ebay for a fiver I see.
I'm sure they might help a little blackspot, but it would need some serious positioning to get it working right, not for the average Joe.
The times I've gone round and just moved a router a few feet or from the front porch/hall (where a lot of bt master sockets are) to a more central location in the house and they have said, 'Thanks, your a genius', Duh!

In fact a large new build north of me that I visited last month have their master socket in a cupboard at the front door.
They did have some points (not wired though, that I'm sure were intended for extended cable), but I could see them putting their router in there.
It would have been even worse anyway as its another new build with no fibre.

If you scroll down as suggested, you will see the new booster for Sky Q, dual band.
I understand on install day that the engineers have some in the van, in case your Mini box cannot reach your Q box wirelessly. So I will tell them the mini is to go the furthest point in the house, to blag one !

On a seperate note, those of you who have outstanding orders for Q, you can bring the install date forward now. Go to My Sky, Orders, Re-schedule Order. Brought mine forward from 8/3 to 4/3
