Price changes from 1st June 2015

There is further news of changes in Sky's prices for their TV packages from 1st June.

The Original Pack, the basic TV package, is dropping from 21.50 to 20.00.

This will be available to new customers. Existing customer must agree to stay with Sky for another 12 months first (i.e. re-contract). However a tip here wold be to upgrade part of your package for say a month, then downgrade it after to get the lower price.

Sky Movies are also changing for those out there who have a legacy package. Those who still have one of the small Sky Movies packs will find that they can access all the Movie channels for a period of time. How long this time is or what will happen at the end is not known. However it is worth noting that with the complete Sky Movies package and a Sky+ HD STB you'll be able to download any of the Sky Movies on demand content.

I know I should be able to find this, but is there somewhere which easily shows whats the difference between Original, Variety and Family.

Looking at Original, it seems to have everything I want. Variety seems to have Eurosport in addition and I guess family gets you the boxsets but there must be more differences than that.

There are other channels added with the Variety bundle. You gain access to the Kids, Documentaries, Music and a limited number of Sports channels (At the Races, Eurosport 1 & 2 and Extreme. Even with the Sky Sports pack you don't get automatic access to these.

Family gives you the same as Variety but with HD content too. I would have said the 3D channel, but sadly this is clsing soon, with all its content moving to On Demand.

Have they ditched the 5 HD then? You can't have original as 21 plus HD at 5 to get the HD variants?

I believe that for new customers you need the family pack to get HD. I could be wrong.

Hmm interesting. I'm thinking of dropping sports and movies and going to original with the 5HD pack.

I don't think there is a 5 pack as such. It just costs that extra to upgrade the Variety to the Family pack. It costs a further 5.50 to upgrade Movies and/or Sport to HD.

      You can't do that unfortunately.

The only way to access the HD variants of standard channels is to subscribe to the family bundle.
The separate 5.50* HD pack gives access to the HD variants of sports & movies only.

Ah, well that's all a bit rubbish isn't it. I barely watch half the channels in the orig pack but I want them in HD. Oh well.
